Arts and Crafts

Arts and Crafts encompass a wide variety of activities and hobbies that are related to making things with one's own hands and skill. Some arts and crafts have been practiced for many centuries, while others are relatively modern practices. Some crafts can only be found in specific geographical areas, as they have served a particular need for a group of people. Many crafts require a certain level of training and a combination of patience, speed, and skill, but they can also be learned on basic level by beginners. Many schools and community clubs and organizations hold classes offering to teach basic craft skills within a brief time frame. It is not unusual for a particular craft to become extremely popular for a brief period of time (a month or two, or a few years), spreading like wild fire among the crafting population as everyone emulates the original. However, craft popularity usually fades with time as a new product or craft is created.

Teachers incorporate arts and crafts into the classroom as a way to let the children express themselves in unique ways. Arts and crafts have become a viable way to teach children how to follow directions while at the same time leaving their own mark and identity on a project. Crafts provide a medium for individuals to come together and work on a project that is as unique as the individual that created it.
